We are confronted with the choice time and again in a civilized environment. There are always things that we do not want talk about. Lets say a very boring relative calls me up - I have to ask him how he is doing though I have no interest in his wellbeing and I have to laugh for his "jokes".
That part is simple because it is just a temporary mask - or is it? Where does the mask end and "the real you" begins. The way I see it, its much like onions, we have different masks for different people and most probably there is nothing inside.
Assuming that everything discussed so far is reasonably accurate, the next obvious question is what is there in the inner most level of the onion? Cant it be the real you? My best bet is the inner most layer in the onion is just a set of believes held so close to you that you cannot live without them. It just represents one of the stereotypical images at the heart.
In a nutshell, we are all stereotypes of one type or the other and we lie to ourselves about it by forming more and more layers around the fundamental.

for most(i guess all) of the options we have in this world you have a choice.. so you can choose not to act trying to talk to ur relatives if u feel uncomfortable talking to them ;).. u will be hated for tat i guess, but u should be ready to take criticism or ignore it ..see its a choice its just most of us take the choice of acting and asking for their well-being even if we dont care!!
masks are controversial(i mean the definition) and so is the concept of "real you",

Yes, Shaking/Changing foundations (ur innermost ring) is a dangerous thing. learnt by experience. but quite frankly its not impossible, coz watever beliefs and opinions we cannot change(how many of us can agree we were the almost same adult 5yrs back) we call them core values ofcourse for a reason coz they are tough to change and beating emotions at its own game is a tougher job but its possible, so to say in a perfectly obamiam world "yes, we can" :)...
ya its just too complex, even when we define things in an experimental boundaries .. if it were easy AI/robots-with-personalities would have been in our daily lives already..
